A knowledge-sharing workshop on family protection was launched in the interim capital, Aden, on September 22 and 23, 2025. The workshop, coordinated and supervised by the Ministry of Interior in Aden, brought together the Family Protection Department of the Ministry of Interior in Aden and the Family Protection Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. It was part of the activities supported by the project “Enhancing Access to Justice for Women and Girls,” implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the ASF Youth Foundation, and with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The workshop opened with official remarks from His Excellency Major General Dr. Qaed Atef, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior; Ms. Intisar Murshid, Director General of the Planning and International Cooperation Office in Aden; Mr. Abdulghani Al-Wajih, UNDP Representative; and Ms. Wiam Saif, Programs Director at the ASF Youth Foundation. The speakers emphasized the importance of this event in strengthening regional cooperation and exchanging expertise in the field of family protection.
The workshop featured a presentation on the experience of the Family Protection Department in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which represents a leading model in this field. Jordanian expertise and knowledge were transferred to the Family Protection Department at the Ministry of Interior in the interim capital, Aden, contributing to the development of operational mechanisms and improved response to domestic violence cases.
The two-day workshop program included a review of the Jordanian Family Protection Department’s experience, covering its establishment, competencies, and mechanisms for receiving reports and complaints. The Jordanian experience in family protection and its collaborative approach with various partners was also presented. Furthermore, issues related to online sexual exploitation, the law on protection from domestic violence, family dispute resolution, and the importance of integration between the Family Protection Department and the Women’s Police were presented and discussed. The conference concluded with an open discussion session that produced several recommendations aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of family protection and developing more comprehensive and responsive mechanisms for addressing domestic violence cases and protecting the most vulnerable groups.
